Our Sire for March 2014 Puppies

January 25, 2014

We recently retired our sire, Charlie, from the breeding scene, and he is spending his days sleeping by the fireplace.  However, our friends the Ritchie’s own a wonderful, tested chocolate male named Choco. We had some misinformation on our blog recently, but it has been corrected and this is the correct information. Tana was bred January 20 and Kadee was bred January 24.  Their litters are due, respectively, MArch 20-25 and MArch 24-29.  The puppies will be ready around May 10-17. Just in time for Mother’s Day…

So, who is this Choco character?

Choco is the 4 year old pet and hunting companion to some of our best friends and their 3 children. He is a tested stud with OFA certification, having sired a few previous litters.  He is mid-sized American style chocolate Lab, of a playful, affectionate, obedient temperament.  Choco is an athletic, healthy dog who has six acres on which to roam, but spends most of his time with his family.

Choco is well-trained, obedient, gentle. He has a good sense of language and seens to know what is expected of him. Unlike many dogs, he even follows instructions given by non-family in new settings, indicating a high desire to please, intelligence and good training, as well as a pretty laid back personality. A dog with a more anxious or willful temperament would not do that so readily.

If no one throws it for him, he throws it for himself and then retrieves it. He could go all day if someone would throw it that long. If he misses and it lands curve down (no where to pick it up ), he flips it over with his paws. Ball, frisbee, doesn't matter.

Choco’s family helps direct a youth camp during each summer, so Choco has become not just a family pet, but a camp favorite, and a good comforter for many a homesick camper. He enjoys hikes, porch time, soccer games, and all the company.

Soccer is a pretty big deal for the Ritchie family, so it makes sense that Choco would be an avid soccer player himself.

Although he is obviously able to keep up with all the action, Choco is just as happy to hunker down at home for some snuggle time on movie night.  He’s so great with all the kids.

We’re excited about these breedings. We expect some amazing puppies! We expect all colors in these litters.

This is our pup’s papa – Sophie’s dad was Charlie who was retired a short time ago, so this dog obviously will be different, a half-sister to our Sophie.
